Speech Title: Are cryptocurrencies influenced by stereotypes and values? Evidence of the role of banker stereotypes and human values on cryptocurrency acceptance
Abstract: This study explores how behavioral and cognitive factors specifically banker stereotypes and human values, influence the adoption and acceptance of cryptocurrencies. Addressing a gap in behavioral finance research, it examines how these factors affect perceived usefulness and ease of use within the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), while also considering demographic moderating effects. Using a quantitative survey of 291 bank customers in France and structural equation modeling, the findings reveal that banker stereotypes (e.g., seriousness, paternalistic, and partner perceptions) and human values (hedonism, self-direction, stimulation, security) significantly shape attitudes toward cryptocurrencies. Notably, generational differences alter how partner stereotypes impact perceived usefulness. The research highlights non-economic determinants of adoption, providing implications for cryptocurrency vendors, banks, and marketers to tailor strategies based on customer stereotypes, values, and generational segments. Socially, it underscores the role of stereotypes and values in bridging traditional banking with digital finance, promoting wider societal acceptance of cryptocurrencies.
